With this "Mega Shinka" creation, derived from one of Nintendo's copyrighted assets, I wish to express my profound love for Butterfree.

Infamous to some, beloved by others. This butterfly monster has been in my heart ever since I watched the anime back in 1998, when I first cheered at Ash's first capture, laughed at Misty's horrified shrieks, then rejoiced at the payoff to Metapod's sacrifice, and lastly cried my eyes out at its departure to mate with the Pink Butterfree from Pinkan Island in the Orange Archipelago.
When I first got my hands on a copy of Pokémon Blue and later remakes, I always used one against the Indigo League Elite Four and Champion (tentatively nicknamed Stupid). Before genders were introduced in Generation II, my Butterfree was already envisioned as a beautiful female named Cindy (further confirmed in the remake LeafGreen).
Cindy the Butterfree valiantly triumphed over my rival time after time, even when my starter could not. She defeated Brock's Onix with Confusion, put Misty's Starmie to sleep with Sleep Powder, breezed through Erika's Grass types, then had Koga's Poison types at her mercy. She nearly met her match against Sabrina's Alakazam and Agatha's party of toxic phantoms. Cindy helped defeat Lance's Dragonite, and helped with Mewtwo's capture in Cerulean Cave.
Design-wise, Mega Butterfree pays homage to the adorable and misunderstood Caterpie.
When creating the battle stats below, I wanted to express my desire to make Mega Butterfree into a decent Pokémon respected by the obnoxious snobs at Smogon. I also want Mega Butterfree to serve as counter for Mega Gengar and the Special Attack counterpart to Mega Beedrill's physical offense.
With one Quiver Dance and a teammate's Substitute, this Pokémon could even take on the likes of Mega Alakazam!
